Healthy Skeleton Brownies – Halloween

Today I am posting my second Halloween dish ever. Last year I kind of skipped the whole Halloween theme. It was my first Halloween in the US and it’s just completely different than in Germany. But this year I try to find my way into it. Because I am not really an artist in the kitchen when it comes to looks, I want to show you how you can make simple things spooky and perfect for a Halloween Party :)
These Healthy Skeleton Brownies are made with “good-for-you” ingredients. Super easy and quick prepared and definitely a cute thing to have on your party table!
Of course you don’t have to use this healthy recipe. You seriously can just use your favorite brownie recipe or even a box mix.

Now if you want a little more (oh who am I kidding, a lot more) creativity. You have to scroll down to see what my wonderful friend Dawn made! My jaw dropped open when I first saw the picture! Trust me, you will love it too!

healthy skeleton brownies recipe

Healthy Skeleton Brownies - Halloween
Recipe type: Dessert
What you need
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 3 egg whites
  • ¾ cup coconut palm sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp coffee flavoring
How you make it
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 F
  2. Line a 8 inch square brownie pan with parchment paper
  3. In a large bowl combine all ingredients until smooth
  4. Pour into baking form and spread out a little
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes
  6. Once cooled cut in 6 equal pieces (long enough to fit a skeleton)
  7. Let cool, then place skeletons on top
*** You can also make brownie bites. Just cut them into small squares and place spiders on top :)

And if you want to be super creative, then you have to look at this fantastic idea (with recipe) from Dawn over at Spatulas On Parade. When I saw the picture of her Owl Cupcakes, I have to admit I was kind of jealous how talented she is. Doesn’t that look perfect for a Halloween Party?! How about we all go to her place and celebrate there :)

  1. awww you are so sweet. I am crafty/artistic but I think everyone is, just in different ways. You are very creative in how you combine different ingredients to come up with delicious dishes.
I like your little skeletons. Fun and not gory.
I too put coffee in my brownies, it just adds such a richness. mmm mmm good

  2. I love that these are healthy. Does that mean they are calorie free, too?

  3. great ingredients for this yummy treat! now, where do i find these skeletons?

  4. I am so uncreative–oh I get great ideas but have to have someone else put them together! I love the skeleton on top of the brownie-even I could manage that (if I didn’t burn the brownies first)

  5. I love those brownies!! Love how you used coconut palm sugar and whole wheat! Definitely a lot better for you than white flour and refined sugar.

  6. Those look great! I will have to make some this year! Thanks for sharing!

  7. Those are so neat! I wish I was that creative!

  8. You’re making me want to throw a Halloween party this year. Super cute!

  9. I love the look of these! I’m not creative at all and I love seeing all the really great things that I’ve been seeing on blogs for the Halloween. This makes me want to go out and make some brownies as well. :)

  10. I just love the brownies and the skeleton. What a great recipe. The owls are too darn cute also!

  11. Another great recipe that I can eat. I don’t ever use cane sugar but I do use the palm. Sugar causes me so many health problems that I don’t keep it in my house.

  12. Ohh this looks like a lot of fun and soo yummy; perfect for our Halloween Party or snack for the kids… soo gonna pin it, I love the idea with the skeleton .. thanks for sharing, too cute

  13. So creative. I love brownies its only a plus that they are healthy. I am guessing since they are healthy I can eat two or three. Right?

  14. These are wonderful ideas for Halloween. I love the brownies what a nice idea. Another recipe to add to my pile! Thanks for sharing.

  15. Very innovative ideas! And yummy ideas too! I would love to taste these.

  16. Nicole A. says:

I love fun Halloween treats like this! The owl cupcakes are super cute.

  17. I’m not too creative when it comes to decorating treats, but this one is certainly relatively easy! Where did you find the “skeleton”?

  18. I want to try both. I want to make this year different. I never made anything like this since I could remember.

  19. I love the skeleton brownies! And I love how they’re actually healthy!

  20. Love the owl cupcakes! What an adorable idea. Brownies look yummy also, cant believe something that looks so good can actually be healthy for you too.

  21. Oh you guys are so talented…both you and Dawn made some wonderful creations. I have such a sweet tooth and my mouth is watering! So creative with the skeleton!

  22. These are so cute and they must have tasted great. I am thinking about possibly hosting a Halloween party at my house next year so I could have an excuse to dress up. These would make some amazing treats for this kind of event and I’m sure all the kids would love them.

  23. Yuumy I love brownies! Wonderful owl cupcakes too ! Very creative

  24. So cute! I love that they are healthy for you as well :)
