March Birthstone Welcome Box Offer

Edible Dirt Cookie Graveyard

It’s this time of the month again … Time for the Cookie Challenge!
As you know my wonderful friend Cynthia from FeedingBig host a monthly get together for bloggers. We all bake cookies to a specific theme. This months theme was: Halloween! Being a little pooper when it comes to Halloween (because I am scared of almost everything) all I can do is cute stuff :)

So I made this Edible Dirt Cookie Graveyard. You could technically use store bought cookies , but I prefer to make them myself. But since I forgot to leave some plain dough before adding chocolate to the rest, I had to cheat a little with the graveyard cookie and took one from the store. So here you have the recipe for the chocolate “dirt” cookies :)

Edible Dirt Cookie Graveyard
Recipe type: Dessert
What you need
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1⁄4 cup cocoa powder
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 1⁄4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
How you make it
  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F
  2. In a large bowl combine butter, sugar, salt and vanilla until smooth
  3. Add flour and cocoa and mix gently until it all sticks together
  4. Roll dough into a ball, flatten slightly, then roll out on a floured surface to ½ inch thickness
  5. Cut the dough into 1½ inch squares and poke a couple times with a fork
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes (Cookies get crumbled up so it doesn't matter if they are in a minute too long)

Now once your cookies are cooled you can make some instant chocolate pudding, fill the pudding into jars or other small containers. Crush the chocolate cookies and sprinkle the crumbles on top of the pudding. Use any kind of white cookie as your tombstone. You can either spoon it out or, like me, use the tombstone cookie to dig it all out and eat that one last 😉

Oh and just in case you need more Halloween type flavors like Pumpkin, here is a great recipe for Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies! I love the spider on it :)

Now let’s see what all the others made, I bet they were really creative!
