crispy tofu satay with peanut butter sauce
They say you either love or hate tofu - I say, if you don't like tofu, you never had it prepared the right way. Tofu comes with a weird unique taste, that could make you hate it, but there is so many great ways to cover this paper like taste.

This Crispy Tofu Satay is so full of flavors, you won't even notice you are eating tofu!

A crispy outside helps to get over the spongy taxture of tofu and the amazing peanut butter sauce will cover the taste and make you want more and more!

What you need

The Marinade:
1/2 onion, shredded
2 tablespoons garlic
1 teaspoon ginger
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon chili paste

2 packages extra firm tofu
1 1/2 cups bread crumbs
3 tablespoons coconut oil

The Sauce:
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup water
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons garlic
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon chili powder


How you make it

  • Cut your tofu into 2*0.5 inch cubes (means cut once lengthwise and then cube it)
  • In a large plastic container stir together all marinade ingredients, then rub each tofu piece with it, place in the container, cover and refrigerate for 1 hour

Meanwhile cook your sauce:
  • Bring all sauce ingredients together in a medium sauce pan
  • Bring to a boil over high heat, then set aside until serving

  • Now pour bread crumbs into a shallow plate and turn each tofu piece into it until fully coated
  • Bring coconut oil in a large skillet over high heat and brown breaded tofu pieces from both sides
  • Warm up your peanut butter sauce in the microwave and serve :)
