Gluehwein is a traditional German Christmas Punch, that everyone enjoys. You can find it everywhere during Christmastime.
We love to drink it while walking through our beautiful Christmas Markets, to stay warm 😉
YES, we do drink on the streets!
Basically it’s a wonderfully spiced warm wine, smelling and tasting like Christmas and for sure a must have throughout all December!

You can also do lots of great cooking and baking with it. If you never had a Gluehwein Cake, you better get started on that, because you missed out on something so so good!

Other than that, I can just say enjoy and drink responsibly, because after only one cup, you will feel pretty tipsy!

Glühwein (German Hot Wine Punch)
Recipe type: Drinks
What you need
  • 6 cloves
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon anise
  • ½ lemon, sliced in very thin stripes
  • ½ orange, sliced in very thin stripes
  • 4 cups red wine
  • 1 cup water
How you make it
  1. In large pot bring together all ingredients and place pot over medium/low heat
  2. Cover the pot and let simmer for 1 hour (do NOT boil the wine, just simmer)
  3. Now let cool for 1 hour
  4. Pour wine through a sieve to get rid of the spices and fruit
  5. Warm up before serving
